Oral Irrigation – Is It Worth It?

Tuesday, March 31st, 2009

by David Snape

This short essay is based on my experiences with the HydroFloss Oral Irrigator. This is a story about how I found the HydroFloss and why I was looking for it – even though I didn’t know exactly what I was going to find when I was searching for answers.

A while back, my dental doctor and her trusty hygienist assistant told me that something had to be done about my gum disease issues. They were quite sober and determined in their explanation of what they felt was a necessary treatment.

They further explained that what they wanted to do was referred to as a ’scaling and root planing’ procedure. It is also called a SRP.

As they explained, I really didn’t enjoy the picture that was forming in my mind. I did not get a comfortable warm feeling from this discussion at all. I was wondering if I could pass.

The hygienist explained that they would go down below the gumline with some special tools to scrape built up tartar / calculus. She would also ’smooth’ the root to get rid of rough spots that allow for the accumulation of plaque build up.

Again, I thought this can’t be a lovely thing to go through. Even more scary was the fact that she felt that I need not worry because she could make my gums feel numb while she worked.

At this point, I knew it was going to hurt whenever the medication wore off. This was not the kind of life experience that I would remember fondly.

Then she mentioned that if I refused the treatment that I needed to sign a waiver stating that they were not responsible for what happens to my teeth from there on. I didn’t like that either.

Being completely frank, I felt like I was being sold a ‘bill of goods’. It just seemed plain silly that they would request the signing of a waiver.

Then came the part that made up my mind. The assistant stated that I should start on this today, instead of having my regular routine cleaning done.

The logic she used made sense. The problem was with insurance. Should I get the standard, regular cleaning procedure now, insurance might not be inclined to pay for the advanced one later. But, I felt in my heart, that this was something I would need time to ponder before committing to it.

There was a voice in my mind that was very strongly opposed to going through with this new protocol, so I said no. Oddly enough, the waiver issue did not come up again.

The entire predicament seemed very surreal to me. There had to be another way for my gums to be healthy again.

Afterward, I talked to someone who had this treatment. She did not seem very satisfied with the results.

I started searching. A device called the HydroFloss Oral Irrigator came to my attention. I felt that I should give it a try and I purchased one online.

I was very optimistic when the package showed up on my doorstep. I noted that there should have been a video instruction disk included with my purchase but it just wasn’t there.

I wrote to the company and asked them to send me one. They did. When the video showed up, I watched right away.

I was pretty optimistic that the HydroFloss would work for me. Therefore, I started applying its usage often throughout the day.

Approximately, twenty weeks later, I went back to visit the office of my dentist. The reaction I received from them made my very happy.

The same assistant and doctor took a good look at my gums. Each agreed that there was a vast improvement. In fact, they told me that there was no need for that scaling and root planing now.

You can imagine that I felt really good at that point. I still use my HydroFloss daily, except when traveling.

Take a gander at my signature box below and you will find a link to a coupon for a great deal on the HydroFloss. Is the Hydro Floss worth it? In my opinion, based on my experience, it is.

“The Hydro Floss Saved My Teeth”

Get a Hydro Floss

I thought I would share with you a little note that I found in my inbox a few days ago. I want to thank Jill for sharing her story with us: Thank You Jill. This is exactly the kind of thing that people need to know about and hear!

Hi David,

I just thought I’d drop you a note to tell you that the Hydrofloss has saved my teeth and saved me thousands of dollars. I had gum disease 6 years ago. I went to a periodontal surgeon and he said there was nothing I could do that it was too far advanced and I needed to have 4 teeth extracted. Being that he was the expert, I let him remove two of my teeth in the back of my mouth. After the surgery (which was awful) he told me he had removed the better two in my mouth and that the really bad ones needed to come out next. I never went back to him.

I have a friend that has implanted teeth and her dentist told her not to use floss but to get the Hydrofloss instead. Well, I bought one also. Not for the same reason as she, but thought it couldn’t hurt to try it. It is now 6 years since my surgery. I have used my Hydrofloss (I’m on my second one) religiously every day (even when I travel I take it with me) at bedtime.

My dentist has told me I have no signs of gum disease, do not need my other teeth removed and to keep up doing whatever I’m doing. He really wasn’t interested in knowing about the machine (even though I keep trying to tell him). That’s the only thing I don’t like about him.

I’m sure you must get other letters like this but I just felt that I wanted to share good news. My son is using his all the time now too.
Thank you.

Thanks to Bill

Tuesday, March 3rd, 2009

I want to say, “Thank You for calling in today”.  I appreciate the conversation.

Bill and I talked about the Hydro Floss, Ramiel Nagel’s Book  and a bunch of other things relating to dental health care and root canals.

Since Bill purchased the Hydro Floss from this site, I sent him a digital copy of What You Should Know about Gum Disease

That’s one of the perks you get when using coupon code a-per10.  But be forewarned, if you do that, and you want the book, you
have to email me a copy of your receipt.  Then, I can send you , in email, a copy of the book.

Hopefully, everyone will be able to find better dental health!

Dave
